FAQs
What size vehicle do I need?
Luton van: up to 4.1m in Length but they excel in height dimensions and often come with a tail lift for particularly heavy items. A luton van is large enough to move out of an average 2 bed flat in one go!
LWB (Long wheelbase) van: Up to 4m in length. These are less wide than Luton vans and are perfect for most large loads, their increased fuel effeciency means they’re cheaper than a Luton van.
MWB (Mid wheelbase van): up to 3m in length, these are the most common vans on the road in the UK. They have the perfect trade off between fuel efficiency and load space.
SWB (Short wheelbase van): up to 2m in length, these are perfect for smaller items that won’t fit in a car.
Car: Documents, Parcels, Laptops, Critical Equipment? A car is the cheapest option we have for very small items
Why can online quotes and phone quotes vary so much?
Our online quote generator can only use static information to generate a ballpark price, however our network of drivers are constantly on the move and we can often find you a cheaper price within 20 minutes of a telephone or email enquiry.
If a courier is nearby and is going towards your delivery destination, we can charge a co-load rate which is cheaper because we don’t have to pay the driver to get to you, and to get them back from the collection address. This is the same with a back-load rate where a driver is coming back from their previous job with an empty vehicle and it makes sense to take your delivery en-route.
We pride ourselves in paying all our drivers fairly and on time, therefore we can’t always be competitive with companies who don’t adhere to this moral code.
Any tips on getting the best price?
Being flexible with pickup times is the biggest thing you can do to get a better price, although if you’re looking at sameday couriers this may not be an option!
Booking in advance is also advised. We offer a 15% discount for bookings that begin 24h in the future.
Having delivery times that are flexible also helps, if you need something ASAP, then a driver won’t co-load and will only stop if they need a break or they need more fuel! However if your delivery just needs to be done by the end of the day, then we can generally offer a cheaper price.
For some customers, a sameday courier isn’t the best option. We don’t yet offer next day services, but aim to soon. You can also look at a big parcel handler like DHL or Royal Mail or an overnight pallet service through your local freight and logistics company.
Sameday couriers are often seen as an emergency service, additionally the insurance requirements and the upkeep of vehicles that cover a lot of miles are rolled into our quotes.
Do you use electric vehicles at all?
No. We like electric vehicles, but currently the technology isn’t right for our business. Often we need to drive 500 miles a day to serve our customers and the latest vans can’t charge as quickly as cars. We look forward to an electric future, but it’s not here yet.
